*sigh*
So here I am... not at Origins. I swear, the 'verse is aligned against me attending this con! First, my boss told me yesterday am that she needed me to work till noon today, since the people we're processing a grant proposal for don't have their stuff together yet. I stayed till 9 pm last night formatting and fixing, then packed the car so I could leave straight from work.
I was scheduled for a "Firefly" game at 2 pm... *sob* Well, at least I might make it in time for the Living Death tonight...
Then - good news! I walked in at 8 am to have Da Boss tell me that they decided at midnight last night to postpone submitting the grant (a good idea, since even without my scheduled absence they were way short of the material they needed), and I could go! I made her a pot of coffee and hit the road, confident that I'd be there in time for the 2 pm Firefly game.
Not so much... All was well till a little past the 96/23 intersection, when suddenly my car started to buck and weave. I managed to steer to the right shoulder from doing 70 in the fast lane without losing control of the car (I figured it was a tire)... and well, I don't know much about cars, but I know the wheels aren't supposed to point in different directions. A phone call to AAA (bless cell phones!) and an hour later the tow truck driver diagnosed a busted tie rod. Since I wasn't *that* far from home, I had him tow me back to Badgely's (the best garage in the universe - I'd link to them, but they don't have a web site) and they're fixing it now. Of course, it took almost all of my cash, but at least Badgely's will let me pay them next week when I get paid. I called the Trust, but the guy I usually deal with is out of town, and the woman I talked to was... shall we say... unhelpful. Lots. Maybe I'll get some money asap, maybe not.
*sigh*
Could have been worse. On the up side, if I'd gone last night I'd have been on the road at night when the tie rod went. There's some comfort to being able to call your mechanic and have them waiting for you. I didn't lose control of the car, and no one was hurt. I had enough cash to pay for the tow truck (though I'm only going to have about $50 for the weekend now). It could always be worse. The poor tow truck driver broke up with his girlfriend a couple of days ago, and he was suffering, poor guy.
So now, I'm waiting to hear from Badgely's and the bank... *sigh*
Edit: Badgely's had the car fixed by 4 and I was on the road again by 4:45. I got money from the bank on Friday, so it all worked out. I had a great time and will report on some of it on my gaming blog. All's well that ends well -- no one was hurt but my bank account, and that got refreshed by Dad's trust.

Where's Jae?
